Becoming a RV transport driver is quite simple, but you will need to meet certain requirements. Below is our step-by-step guide to becoming a RV transport driver with Classic Transport.
First, See if You Qualify
To work with Classic Transport, all drivers must be at least 23 years old with 18 months of driving experience on their license. Having two or less moving violations, and two or less accidents, and no suspensions within the past 36 months is also essential. As a driver, you must have had no major driving violations within the past 7 years.
All drivers must undergo a DOT physical exam every 2 years and must have a valid certificate when applying. A CDL license is not required depending on the position, however, you must pass a road test.
Choose a Position
At Classic Transport there are multiple options for drivers, including Towaway, Driveaway, and Multi-Haul positions. Towaway drivers use their own vehicles to tow trailers from headquarters to various locations. Driveaway drivers will transport vehicles from headquarters to various locations and then use transportation options to return home after delivery. Multi-Haul drivers transport several vehicles at once using trailers.
How to Apply
Applying to become a RV transport driver requires you to fill out the application form online. To complete the form you will need to have:
- Your Social Security number
- 36 months of home address history
- Current driver license number
- 3 years of driver license history
- Up to 10 years of employment history
- Any driving violations in the past 3 years
- Military history if applicable
During the application process, there will be a requirement page reminding you of the qualification requirements. Once you are through the requirement screens, there are 11 pages to fill out with the information mentioned above. The form itself is simple to follow with the requirements made clear. If there are any errors throughout the application, you will not be able to proceed to the next step.
Wait and Prepare
Once you submit your application, it is time to wait for a response and get prepared. For Driveaway drivers, get your go bag packed. This should include several changes of clothes, toiletries, snacks, and any documentation you might need. For Towaway drivers, now is the perfect time to perform a full inspection of your vehicle and potentially book in for a quick service to make sure everything is running as it should. Once you hear back about your application, you will need to attend an orientation session before you can accept your first job.
